xNormal 3.17.7

v3.17.7
  • Added support to import/export WebP images.
  • Fixed a problem in the SBM exporter for 3dsmax that was causing a hang when the user closes the window.
  • Added a new experimental renderer based on Caustic Graphics/Imagination Technologies's OpenRL 1.0R2 ray tracing API.
  • Fixed a problem with dilation using the tangent-to-object-space tool.
  • Now you can render a new map type: derivative height maps, which are designed to replace old-school problematic tangent-space normal maps ( thanks to Morten Mikkelsen again ).
  • Now it's possible to write image importers/exporters using Java.
  • The FBX mesh importer has been completely rewritten. Now it can read properly Uvs, normals and the tangent basis ( which is specially good if you use the Unity engine ).
  • Solved the problems loading the filter plug-ins in Photoshop CS5.
  • Added a warning message in case you use external cages having the “Use shortest diagonal” option enabled in the triangulator.
  • Recompiled using the latest libraries ( Optix 2.1.1, FBX, Crosswalk ).

Hi,

Your xNormal was mentioned on a discussion at the Vega Strike open source game forum: http://forums.vega-strike.org/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=17869 When I went looking for information about xNormal and Linux I ran across a mention of that and posted it to the forum. What is the current status of the xNormal 4 release which is supposed to include Linux? Is there something that folks can download, try and help debug? Thanks

We're still developing xn4 because we had to completely re-write the UI system, so it gonna take some extra time.

Currently you cannot download the xn4's alpha. Perhaps soon.
